Prompt: #8 Tour and Evensong at St. Paul’s Cathedral
When they moved to the stalls, I could still enjoy their music but the echo and flow far they were did not help with me listening to the words. I couldn’t understand what they said but the music was still enjoyable and pretty. I’ve always known that singing in places that big is hard because of the acoustics, they can either help or ruin a song. Their music was not ruined because I think they meant for it to sound that way. They way it is portrayed I think it sounds like they are singing to the heavens or the heavens are producing this echoing music. I also think the echo in the church made it sound like the music was spiritual and eerie. This is a good element to represent faith.
A lot of their music was also ascending, the notes going high. I think this is another repre of them making the music as if they are trying to reach the heavens. Everything is going up to represent God and Heaven. The space made it to a great gateway to bring out this sound of eerie and echoes that made the songs sound spiritual. I really liked the experience of listening to them because in the past I’ve done similar stuff but never had the chance to experience it listening to it in person. I think a recording does not do it justice to the real thing. My favorite was when one of the kids was singing really high, I though they sounded very sweet and good which made it enjoyable.
Lastly, I could follow a long to what was happening pretty good because I had the program with me, but if I didn’t have I probably wouldn’t have known what they were saying or what was happening. I’m glad they had those programs because it also helped to feel included. I also enjoyed how before the music started they did tell us when to stand up. Overall the experience was amazing, listening to a mix of children and adults singing in such a beautiful place and with different acoustics that I’m used to made it very intriguing.
